DR DONNCHADH MURPHY Principal Clinical Neuropsychologist

Sports and Boxing Neuropsychology

It is now understood that repeated trauma to the head can result in long-term neurological difficulties, including persistent post-concussion syndrome, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), and increase the risk of neurodegenerative conditions.

This can be a significant issue for athletes who participate in high contact sports, including boxing, wrestling, rugby and American football.

To protect athlete from the risks associated with repeated head trauma, professional governing bodies are increasingly requesting that routine brain imaging and neuropsychological assessments are carried out to ensure athletes are medically fit to compete.

Dr Murphy has experience conducting neuropsychological assessments with professional athletes. Dr Murphy is registered with the British Board of Boxing Control and administers an approved neuropsychological assessment which adheres to their standards.

Referrals are accepted across Plymouth, Devon and the South West Peninsula.
